The Impact of Collecting

How Buying Canadian Art Supports the Creative Economy

What a single purchase (either buying or renting) on Partial makes possible, from the artists to the collectors.

The Artist

Being part of the artist community at Partial Gallery has given me a sense of oneness with the arts world in Toronto. Their team has provided tremendous care and human support each step of the way for me in navigating the arts in the West, with new visions and new views for artist development and artwork creation. My deepest appreciation for the Partial team's innovations and for including diverse artists to share the path to creating amazing artwork. Congratulations on your 10th anniversary from my heart.

The Collector

I was thrilled to find an organization/platform that made it easy to rent quality art locally. My experience renting art and interacting with a couple of artists has been great and I plan to continue.

The Artist

I joined Partial nearly a decade ago and have watched our relationship evolve across many meaningful projects together. As a disabled, neurodivergent, queer artist of colour, I have found that sustained belief especially meaningful. The opportunities generated through our collaboration have allowed me to reinvest directly in my work and continue building an interdisciplinary career. Partial feels less like a platform I use and more like a creative community that has grown alongside my practice. I remain immensely grateful for what we have built together and excited for where the next decade may take us.

Industry Partner

Partial has been an outstanding partner in bringing the OCAD U Artist Showcase to life. Their platform and team have helped us elevate the presentation of student and emerging artist work while making the acquisition experience seamless for everyone. The Showcase continues to expand visibility for participants, meaningfully support creative careers and strengthen the connection between OCAD U talent and new audiences.

The Artist

Partial staff work tirelessly to promote the work of local artists in a wide variety of ways. Because of their passion, ambition, and conviction of the value of artists, I have had so many amazing opportunities and art sales. I have felt supported and valued since I first signed up. Supporting Partial is support for hundreds of creatives and for art itself.

10 Years of Canadian Creativity — 2016–2026

Our Home on Native Land

Artists imagine and create work all across this country we call Canada – land that Indigenous peoples have stewarded for thousands of years and continue to do so today. As an independent marketplace founded by second-generation settlers, to speak of “Canadian art” calls on our commitment to decolonize past structures in the arts sector, celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ history and diversity, and create space for Indigenous creators to share their art and culture. An offering of Reconciliation that we have committed to since inception has been offering gratis Pro plans for any Indigenous artists who choose to use this platform.

As a small business founded on the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishnaabeg (ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᒃ), Haudenosaunee, Métis, and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation in Tkaronto (Treaty 13), we acknowledge them and all other Nations - recorded and unrecorded - as past, present and future caretakers of this land.

We recognize the enduring presence and deep connection of Indigenous peoples to nature and the importance of land stewardship. As such, for our tenth anniversary, our chosen organization to support is Indigenous Climate Action (ICA), an Indigenous-led organization guided by a diverse group of Indigenous knowledge keepers, water protectors and land defenders from communities and regions across the country.

From Turtle Island to West Asia and beyond, we are connected in the global struggle against colonialism, for Indigenous sovereignty, and human dignity for everyone.
